TRAINING

KAWASAKI

kaw3.jpg (30485 bytes)

The world's first motorcycle simulator using a head mounted display (HMD). The HMD integrates rider and instructor into a cohesive learning unit.   Compact, affordable motorcycle riding simulator.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. was originally approached by the Japanese National Police Agency to develop a better, more realistic riding simulator, which would allow potential riders to take their rider training at a riding school.

The rider sits on an actual motorcycle (Kawasaki ZRX-II) and by using the HMD is able to look side to side, use rear view mirrors and lean forward at intersections to check traffic, reinforcing safe riding techniques. The riders also learn the use and feel of a clutch, throttle, brake lever and gear shifter. The simulation can depict different riding courses. Users can choose between "street" and "specific condition" riding. The student and instructor communicate via a built in microphone and earphones. Two monitors are located on the control desk. One shows the images projected through the HMD, the other displays a touch screen used for instruction and control. By touching the screen, the instructor can select the motorcycle size and training course, as well as give directions to the rider. After simulation, problem areas can be instantly reproduced and viewed from several angles, all by one touch operation.
